A (Truthful) Blue Sky Reserve Hike

Wallace Stevens once said…“Perhaps the truth depends on a walk around the lake.” If that’s true, you definitely encounter honesty on this date. Your first stop is at the market — international or farmers — to fill your backpacks with lunch before embarking on your Blue Sky Reserve hike. Follow the trail under blue skies and towering oaks, alongside the (seasonal) creek, pausing for a picnic before seeking truth around Lake Poway. Feeling energetic? Make your way to the boats and take a romantic row.

  • VIBE: Active, Romance

  • Yes, they’ll wilt on the hike but ditch practicality and buy your date a flower (or two or three) at the farmer’s market.

  • Don’t forget the basic picnic accessories…including plenty of WATER. If you don’t already have one, we love this picnic backpack—Picnic Backpack for 2
  • North Park Produce is not for the faint of heart…although the food is good and reasonably priced, it’s a funky international market that tends to be a bit unkempt. If this will ruffle you or your date, head to Sprouts instead.
  • Find the trail map in the parking lot and familiarize yourselves with your route before setting off.
  • Shortly after beginning the hike, you’ll reach a fork in the road…take the trail on the left that takes you down by a (possibly dried up) creek and beneath elderly oak trees.
  • The picnic tables are on the left side of the trail about halfway to the lake — under a small grove of trees just before the trail starts heading upward.
